Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior representative said the incident left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
